Missa’s Review:

If you haven’t read my introductory blog post yet, check it out here. If you have, then you know that THIS is the book that started me on this fun adventure. THIS is the book that had the clever play-on-words title that prompted a change in my life. And in looking back, THIS is the perfect first book to start a journey like this.

Now how do I tell you how much I loved this book without giving any more away than I already have? Therein lies my challenge. 🙂

From the opening line of “Is that a man’s watch?” followed soon after by the line “Why is my underwear on the lamp?”, Kimberly Fox sets up a fun Vegas adventure between two people who most likely wouldn’t have even greeted each other in passing had these series of events not happened to them. And you will laugh out loud with them as you learn about said events.

Our heroine, Dahlia, was warned by her friend Emily that some people just can’t handle Vegas. At first, you think that Dahlia is one of those people. But I think not! Dahlia can handle Vegas just fine. She just needed to get out of her own way. And, our hero, Tyler, is the perfect man for the job. Because let’s face it, when you are the one who is in your own way and you can’t see it, you need someone to step up and give you a good shove.

Now, Tyler is not without his own issues. And Dahlia being who she is, is the perfect woman to help him realize what’s really important in his life and why. Together they really do make a great team. And a team that you find yourself rooting for.

It was a fun, enjoyable experience to witness these two characters thrown together and watch how they navigated the series of events. The witty banter between Dahlia and Tyler is just one of the many reasons why this book is worth your time to read.

Hopefully, I have not given too much away and it inspires you to give this book a read. I would like to end this with a salute to the poor Ferrari salesman who ended up in the trunk. He handled that well. AND, I would like to add that I will never look at pineapples the same way ever again. I now have a new memory to associate with them.

Thank you Kimberly Fox!

Introducing Missa’s Bookshelf

Several months ago, I decided to jump into the pool that is known as Kindle Unlimited. Prior to this moment, I was an old school reader, in that, there was something supremely satisfying about having a physical book in my hand. Running fingers over the words on the pages was one of the best feelings in the world to me. I never thought in a million years that I would ever want to read a book digitally. It has never really appealed to me.

Then this romance book kept popping up across my social media. I know it’s just marketing and cookies and all that jazz. But I’m of the mind that when something keeps making an appearance in my universe, I might want to pay attention to it. The cover art, to be honest, was a well-chiseled specimen of a male and he was decent to look at. But it was the clever play on words in the title that got me. I am a sucker for creative use of the English language every time. Yes… Hello… My name is Melissa and I love word porn. 😉

These days, I am quite the busy person though. I work full time, I help my husband with his business, together we have just launched a third business AND together we homeschool our daughter. So yes… busy? CHECK. Got that! Even got the t-shirt!

I felt that I didn’t really have the time in my day to day schedule to sit down with a book and read. But that title kept lingering about in my brain (AND my social media) and I just couldn’t let it go.

So I thought about it. And thought about it. And thought about it some more. I definitely had 5 minutes here or 7 minutes there throughout my day in which I could open up an app on my phone and read a few paragraphs. So hence, a Kindle Unlimited subscription was born.

And now I’m officially a Kindle Unlimited addict. They say the first step is to admitting you’re an addict right? Well just between you and me, I really don’t want to get better. 😉

It’s been fun to look back and see this journey that I started and have enjoyed immensely. But now I feel the need to take it a step further. So it’s time for me to expand into writing reviews about these wonderful books and help connect others with these fantastic authors. I’m even toying with the idea of taking this to video land aka YouTube as well. Stay tuned for that development.!

Confession time: I HAVE wanted to write a review several times already. Alas, until about a month ago, my KU was on my husband’s account and there is NO WAY he wants his name associated with most, if not all, of these titles. In fact, he logged into said Amazon account the other day and I heard exclaimed from the other room “What the??!!” Hello… my name is Melissa and I have a thing for romance novels.

Actually, I have a thing for ALL kinds of genres: science fiction, fantasy, action adventure, mystery, non-fiction, fan fiction… you name it. I’ll read anything. It’s just lately my focus has been on romance. And, let’s just say that some of the covers for these books are rather… bare. 😉 Which best explains the reason for the “What the??!!” from my husband when he witnessed the deluge of books that I have consumed these past months listed on the account. Not to mention, the book suggestions that Amazon is so polite to offer. So considerate of them. 🙂

Anyway back to my idea. So I have decided to write a book review blog and I’m going to go back to the book that started it all – the one that hooked me with its title with the clever play on words, re-read all that I’ve read to date and post a review here each week. I have also started an account on Goodreads to post my reviews there as well. And I will be adding reviews to Amazon as well.

But I want to do more than just give my opinion about a book I have read. Why not have some fun with this and write up my reviews like this:

  • Post Subject Line: “Book Review: Book Title by Author”
  • Title: Book Title
  • Author: Name of the Author
  • Format: Kindle Unlimited, Audible (yes I consume audiobooks as well. I am now a believer in well-balanced diets 😉 )
  • Genre: the main genre this book belongs to
  • Main Characters: The main character names
  • Opening Line: The first sentence of the book
  • 7 Key Words: These are seven words that I feel have a key meaning to the story.
  • Best Moment: My favorite moment from the book.
  • Missa’s Thoughts: My actual review of the book.
  • Missa’s Ranking: My own personal rating for the book which consists of:
    • Yes!! ♥ = this means I LOVE this book. Period.
    • Ok! = this means that the book is good but not one of my absolute favorites.
    • Nope = this means that I really did not enjoy this book.

In writing up my reviews, I am going to do my best to NOT give away as much of the story as I possibly can. If you have not read the book, then I don’t want to ruin it for you. But, I do want to tell you why I like or don’t like it. AND, just because I like or don’t like a book means that you will feel the same. This is just purely 100% my opinion.

Which brings me to my final caveat and here it is:

None… absolutely NONE of these authors have reached out to me in any way to help them promote their books. My reviews that I post here or anywhere else are 100% unsolicited. AND, you can count on 100% honesty from me in my reviews. I will not hold back in any way, shape, or form in the giving of my opinion. As I progress on this adventure, you (and I) are going to learn what I like and what I don’t like because I will simply tell you. AND if you are an author and would like me to be a part of your ARC team, I am open to all invites. But I will make it known that I am a part of your team as I do believe in complete honesty be it brutal or not. Yep, I’m the rip-the-bandaid-off-kind-of-girl.

Because I have read so much AND I’m constantly coming across new suggestions, the next several weeks I will most likely be posting daily, just to get caught up somewhat on all that I have read to date. Ideally, I’d like to post on Thursdays once I get caught up that is.

This is going to be fun and I truly hope you enjoy this adventure with me.

Happy Reading!
